Try giving them hemp hearts. Mine love those. You should order feeder insects, though.

I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that are not found in your area.

I did not have any Hemp hearts, but I tried Sunflower hearts, and they really like them! I also bought 500 crickets, I am going to try to get them to breed.

Just an update on my A. rudis colony: all the workers died, but the queen laid more eggs and now she has three workers again! They are currently in a test tube.

 

I also caught a Aphaeneogatser treatae queen yesterday.

I have 5 Aphaenogaster colonies I am only going to keep two though one in a naturalistic peach jar and one in traditional ant farms. They are easily one of my favoriten types to keep. I don't know the exact speices but I may have multiple because some are black with red tipped gasters others red with red gasters.

I recently caught an aphaenogaster rudis queen and I have big plans for their nesting space. I never really thought much of aphaenogaster, but now I see they are actually pretty cool to keep despite all previous colonies dying in the past.

I do, but they're pretty bad, I'm sure you know how it is getting photos through a test tube. Maybe once they're in a larger setup with glass or nicer plastic on it, I can get some photos and post them here.

 

Also do you have any idea what the egg to worker time is?

It’s very quick for such big ants. Maybe a little over a month if they’re kept warm.

How big are your workers? My queen is 8.5mm, which seems to be slightly larger than the queen on AntWiki.
