I decided to try and see how fast my very large Myrmica Colony would re-act to me adding in a soaked piece of cotton [this was back in 2014 I think] and so took pictures at every chance I could pretty cool watching them swarm it :D

I hope this is in the right place for this...

Although they really do love water (except when they drown in it :P) Any Myrmica I keep without any water usually dies within the first day.

Newb question: do I need to provide something like this or a water tower to allow my ant colonies to drink?

I keep the formicarium humid, but there's nothing for them to leach water off of in a "drinking" fashion.

Newb question: do I need to provide something like this or a water tower to allow my ant colonies to drink?

I keep the formicarium humid, but there's nothing for them to leach water off of in a "drinking" fashion.

I've seen it mentioned in multiple sources that ants get their water from nectar and food. However, after seeing my Pheidole flock to spilled water, I've started placing liquid feeders with water in most of my colonies for them to drink from, if they choose to. I've got nothing to lose, and typically see a few ants drinking from it.
