I have a larger Myrmecocystus mexicanus colony, that is growing out of their mini hearth xl. I am debating on weather to connect another XL or normal sized mini hearth to their current xl, or I could get a fortress to move them in, but I fear it is too big. I anticipate the colony to be at 30ish workers at the time of the move/connection. Any advice on what to do?

A mini hearth XL should be more than enough room for a colony of 30 workers.

you could consider giving them a larger foraging area instead if your current nest space is still plenty for them.
I use a side port on my mini to go to a much larger outworld.

Totally agreed. A standard mini hearth can house a couple hundred workers, an XL would obviously fit even more. 30 workers is nowhere near full, unless you are underestimating how many they have. Once they fill mini hearth XL, I would connect another XL, and once that is filled you could go to directly to a nucleus.

Okay, thanks all. I underestimated the space they sti have. I think it's just because they get really spread out when you check on them because they get kind of stressed.

I'm keeping mine in a DIY nest that has about 4 square inches of space in it and they are currently at around 12w but it looks like the it could hold them up to 250w
