On august 21, 2022 I caught 100+ acanthomyops queens in a mass nuptial flight. Most of the queens were either sold or died, except for three.

Queen #1: lasius subglaber

All three have eggs and are quickly getting physogastric. Hopefully i can successfully raise them to biological workers.

Not really much of an update because all three queens still have eggs, but just wanted to share how HUGE the subglaber x latipes queen has gotten. Probably the thiccest queen I’ve ever seen in my life.

Both subglaber and the hybrid queen have biological pupae, which is interesting considering my latipes stayed as larvae for around 4 months. Interjectus now has medium sized larvae.

Today was the big day for the subglaber colony, as their first biological worker just emerged

Very late update on this: the subglaber queen unfortunately died late last year after the colony was ravaged by aspergillus fungus when i was on vacation in Toronto. The other two queens are doing very well. The subglaber x latipes queen has her first batch of pupae, and the interjectus got her first biological workers around two weeks ago
