Has anyone ever tried those Dubia water crystals with ants?
Keeps: Camponotus, Tetra
Wants (Please reach out if you have them for sale if you’re in the US): Acromyrmex Sp., Atta Sp., Cephalotes Sp., Myrmecocystus Sp (Prefer Mexicanus), Odontomachus Sp. (Prefer Desertorum), Pachycondyla Sp., Pheidole Sp (Prefer Rhea. The bigger the better. Not the tiny bicarinata), Pogonomyrmex Sp (Prefer Badius)., Pseudomyrmex Sp. (Prefer the cute yellow ones)

If you're talking about the plastic chunks that absorb water and are often put in potting soil, then yes, I tried using them for a founding Camponotus queen that I kept in a jar with some wood chips. I used one at a time and replaced it with a new one as they dried out. Each one lasted about a month, not bad but it stressed the queen too much when I exchanged them and twice she ate her eggs. For a young colony they would probably work, but a small piece of sponge is easier.
