It is around 3-4 mm and it is a darkish orange with a single small black stripe on its abdomen. I found it in my backyard today under a rock. I am near Santa Monica, CA

Looks like a Ponerinae sp, I'd need microscope images to get any further as I'm not very familiar with Californian Ponerinae.

Genus Hypoponera. Likely punctatissima, but could be a different species.

I think you’re right. Is this species worth keeping?

In my opinion, they're pretty interesting to keep. Hypoponera are cryptic and are underground most of the time, hunting springtails. They're rather common in areas with damp leaf litter and stones.

Edit: I might be biased though, since I've kept them before and liked them purely because they're cute l'il cryptic ponerines.
