During the last few days of September, I bought a fat queen hyatti colony, with around 15 workers. Even though most species were/starting to hibernate, my hyatti kept growing. They have around 25 workers and some larvae, and eggs. They came in an airtight container, and I wanted a new home for them. I made a hydro stone plaster nest, and after a week to cure, the Formicarium was ready. I was really stoked about this, because I thought the nest looked dope. I refrigerated them for 15min to slow them down, the “dumped” them in there new home. At first, they were exploring their new palace, I them under a screen to chill, and, well, act antish.
After a few weeks, I noticed my hyatti had moved into a test tube setup by themselves! I don’t know about you, but when a fat queen moves her brood and eggs into a test tube by herself and of course, the workers, I jump with joy. Just my personal reaction. It is SUPER satisfying. I feed them lots of nectar, to stay fat😂 and a mealworm segment. I have tried to hand feed like Nurbs, and I have found some “success”.
