My ants are starting to prepare for hibernation.
I feel good that them and me are getting time off over the winter and I get to work on setups when they are under ground.
But I also miss them and read on the forum almost daily to fill that void. lol
I have natural setups so in the winter they dissappear almost completely for me.
Are you enjoying hibernation time or do you miss them being active over the winter?

My ants don't do anything even out of hibernation. The first year I had my first colony i didn't hibernate them, but after this winter i hope they begin snowballing in population size.

I am always a little timid with hibernation because my C. pennsylvanicus colonies were always heavy sleepers haha

I opened my fridge today and one of my queens was rolled over on her side. She was fine but it scared me for a second.

Mine always did that it's unnerving for a second. What species?

You can always throw a pic of them out into the Ant ID forums, there's some people who know there stuff when it comes to ants there...

You can alternate hibernation on half your colonies so you always have ants to watch. I used to, but now I look forward to getting them put away for months since I have so many other responsibilities lately.

It will finally be getting cold enough here for me to hibernate my ants in an unheated basement, and I feel relief.
"The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer." Prov. 30:25
Keep ordinary ants in extraordinary ways.

I guess that depends on how much work maintainance is.
I need about 10 minutes a week to take care of my ants but I only have 4 colonies.
