I volunteer my time to assist in insect and arthropod identification for the local extension agency here where I live.  I often get really grainy images of an"unidentified arthropod" or some frass along with an image of a hole in wood, or something found in some one's carpet, and occasionally an ant!  I can assure you even with my training proper identification is not always easy and as for ants gets more difficult when males are being identified from grainy images!!  Upshot, if you can properly ID any ant species down to species by just eyeing it, then kudos to you especially if it exists in a species complex  ;)

IDing ants takes quite a lot of practice. When i first started antkeeping I was horrible at IDs, but over time you will get better at it, trust me.
