Hey everyone. Chris here from long Island NY. I found a queen today that I thought was an Asian needle ant, but after looking at her up close through the camera, I am not sure anymore. She's 5mm long, and was found under a very large decaying log. Any ID would be great. Thank you. Here's the link to the pics:

Thanks in advance everyone.

Asian needle ant queens have different mandibles and look more like their workers.

Its sadly only a worker, but it is Stigmatomma pallipes.
Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.
However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:
Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Are you sure it's a worker?? In those pics and the video it looks like there are wing scars. And I searched EVERYWHERE around her. I did not find a single other ant anywhere close. And there were a set of wings about 16 inches from where I found her.
And does stigmatomma pallipes live in NY?? I thought Dracula ants were only overseas??
How big are the queens??

It looked like that. Some dracula ants do live in the us. You can look on antmaps

S pallipes queens are basically the same size as workers. I honestly can’t tell but it does kinda look like wing scars. In that case make sure you have plenty of centipedes and fruitflies

I'll try to get better pics and clearer pics in a little while and upload them. It's hard using my phone. But I'll do the best I can.
And fruit flies I've got [censored] tons of. Lol

Get the pictures in more light. Also just focus on the mid segment on a side profile.
Currently: Considering moving to Australia

I'll see if I can get pictures tomorrow in the daylight. And direct sunlight. Either that or I'll contact a friend of mine who is a professional photographer and see if he'd be able to get clearer pics.
