Looks like Camponotus pennsylvanicus to me.
"The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer." Prov. 30:25
Keep ordinary ants in extraordinary ways.

I would encourage you to follow the guide posted at the top of this subtopic, as for all we know that could be modoc based on your location.

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. -Proverbs 6: 6-8

It literally says upstate NY in the title? Modoc also looks very different from pennsylvanicus.

True, i did not see NY in the title, but it would have been nice if he did follow the guide. As for modoc looking different, i believe it depends on regions. Antwiki says: "There is a considerable amount of variability in all characters and these 2 taxa can be nearly indistinguishable."

Also your cotton is very wet and on the verge of flooding, I’d change their tube.
