I have had this colony of Myrmecocystus mimicus for three months, they arrived with 2 workers and the queen laid eggs in mid june. Right now they have 3 large larvae (I think, can't really tell if they're large larvae or not) 3 medium larvae (again, can't really tell) and a batch of eggs. WTH is going on? They have had larvae for months yet no workers, this is insanity!

Do you have substrate/sand to help the larvae spin their cocoons?

I have had problems with this with formica before as well, i think sL0wNsteady is probably on to something here. Although I have noticed that stress can also cause the queen to eat her larvae, then relay eggs and raise them to larvae, only to repeat the process.

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. -Proverbs 6: 6-8
