Happy Festivus!
In 2020 you all have grieved me in the following ways:
-obsessively debating about Ants Canada
-perpetuating toxic threads about releasing ants or exotic species
-digging up mature colonies from the wild
-spelling gaster with an O
-flaunting simple grammar rules
-overusing texting abbreviations
Just joking, guys! Feel free to air your grievances here. If you have no grievances, go do some feats of strength.

I do hereby express my grievances on the important topic of text message abbreviations, and grammatical errors.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.
However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:
Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

-Spelling gaster with an 'o'.
-Spelling various genera with an 'o' instead of an 'e'.
-Reviving old AC threads.
Pretty much everything else ANTdrew listed.

I have another grievance with all the experienced members who ghosted the forum this year.

Oh, here is another one. Suggesting ID's of ants that live on the East Coast, when the specimen is found in the West and vice versa. Another, even worse variant, is calling a North American species, a European species, with the exception of Lasius niger.

How about people ignoring all the sticky threads that tell you how to do stuff, eg, how to post photos.

My grievances are:
Parasites
The lack of Camponotus in my collection
Stupid D. insanus
People trying to ID down to species using a photo that only has 16 pixels
AC and AC threads

After what we’ve had to deal with the last 20 months, I really can’t gripe about anything here on the forum. We’re alive, healthy, and able to talk about our bugs and trade pictures in a community of bug lovers! We could be doing so much worse! We’ve almost survived 2021, let’s hope 2022 rocks. Happy Festivus

2021 was pretty good, only thing to grieve on, for me at least, is TikTok. When I look at them I just see an entirely different species (not just the ant side, either). I do have my doubts on my generation (myself included).

what I've grieved over? Nothing really but I hate that non Vax can't go to the cinema or just about anything else now. Even tho the vax does not stop the spread it just lessens the severe symptoms.

Here's a list of everything I grieved over this year:
My phone broke
Deadly mite infestation
Countless Pharaoh ant raids completely destroying my mealworms (almost wiping them all out)
ACAF ruined by bots, advertisers and fake users and the team doing almost nothing about it
Misspelling ant names
Found a Tetraponera queen but didn't catch it because I didn't bring test tubes
Found only TWO Oecophylla smaragdina queens (not counting dead ones) and both died within a week after capture.
Possibly cursed outworld killing my first ever Iridomyrmex anceps colony
Stubborn ants (Meranoplus, Tetramorium, Lepisiota, Odontomachus, Paratopula and Odontoponera)
Test tubes broken by second cousin and causing me to lose a Camponotus queen
Stung by Diacamma cf geometricum (the exact spot where she stung me can still be seen, about 3 months later)
AC doing very dangerous and unethical things to his ants
Severe flooding in my area (luckily my house didn't get flooded, if it did, my journal would have been all over)
Ants Australia (now Jordan Dean) not uploading
My cube's center piece broke
I think that's it, very sure.

My biggest issue is with myself abandoning projects just before they finish like all my terrarium projects this year.
The more I look at it the more I dislike it and I just end up starting from zero again. Gotta start finishing projects as I used to.

-The evil of TikTok.

Perhaps a thread of good cheer, or rather the venting of the bad isn't the place for debate.
