Do trachymyrmex septentrionalis need anything during their founding stage or do they wait till their first workers to start growing fungus?

I believe they are semi claustral and you should feed the queen foods like clover, dried rose petals, and oats. I think they eat frass also? I’m not to sure about the foods, but the queen should have a fungus pellet that she should have placed somewhere in her test tube or what ever set up you have her in and as soon as she gets food she will start to grow it.

I have 3 that I’m going to see if they make a colony together. I don’t remember seeing any of them with a pellet though. Hopefully they didn’t drop it when I captured them.

The fungus starter pellet is carried in the buccal cavity thus would not be seen in the mandibles.  I would try small fresh rose petal pieces and crushed Quaker Oats.  My colony subsists on these two with occasional frass, when I can obtain it.
