1. Location. Central Arkansas. I was in bed and she landed on me, not sure how she got inside.
2. Date of collection. She found me on July 18th, 2022.
3. Habitat of collection. I was in bed, inside, but the area outside is suburban with open fields and woods to one side.
4. Length. I did not measure her at the time. The rock she is on in the pictures is 1 inch across, so she is smaller than that.
5. Coloration. She is dark red/maroon. Dull. Not noticeably hairy.
6. Distinguishing characteristics. Uncertain.
7. Anything else distinctive. When I noticed her land on me, I put my index finger near her head and she stroked it with her antennae. She then spun around and crawled off my shirt onto the finger. I placed her from my finger to a jar and hastily prepared a formicarium.
I let her move herself from the jar to the nesting area and as soon as she looked around she sat on the rock and ripped her wings off. She dug her claustral chamber that night and I didn't see anything when watering it until last week when the first workers emerged.
I have been feeding them honey water and baby crickets I find outside. They vanished the first two crickets but a larger one I put in has been mostly untouched. The workers scan the perimeter for something more, it seems.
8. Nest description. Unknown.
9. Nuptial flight time and date. Unknown
