Habitat of collection: Unknown (this colony was bought)
Length: Queen- 11mm Workers- 5-6mm
Coloration: Mostly jet black. The workers have a slight red tint on the thorax
Nest description: Unknown (this colony was bought)
Nuptial flight time and date: Unknown
I know this is Camponotus, just wondering if I can ID of a specific species

Looks a bit like Camponotus maritimus, but we'll need better images.
Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.
However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:
Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Definitely martimus the queen gives it away with her round gaster and brown legs, where vincius queens are all black and have a longer gaster.

Although I do agree with this being C. maritimus, I disagree with saying that C. vicinus is only black. C. vicinus has some variablity in addition to other species that look similar such as C. dumetorum. With that being said, what gives it away as C. maritimus for me is that the queen is quite shiny and fairly small - smaller than the other aforementioned species.

What I meant was the black vicinus variant not the brown kind. Yes, you are right maritimus queens are notably smaller.
