Date & Time: November 12, 2015 at 10:00 PM, Eastern / 7:00 PM, Pacific

Subject: Changes to transport laws to allow the interstate transport of some ant species within the United States

Location: Formiculture.com Chat Room

Everyone familiar to the hobby of keeping ants in the United States is familiar with the challenge of obtaining queen ants.  We will discuss the following subtopics:

  • Understand existing federal and state laws in the U.S.; cite examples of model state laws

  • Discuss the cause(s) of, and how to reduce, instances of smuggling and prohibited importation (underground economy)

  • Understand and overcome objections held by myrmecologists, environmentalists, farmers, businesses, and citizens to the legality of transporting ants

  • Discuss the merits of providing a viable business opportunity for queen ant suppliers, makers, and other vendors through legislative or other action

  • Discuss the political process and the formation of a political action committee (PAC) to oversee favorable outcomes for the above points

The chat room will be open to all, but keep in mind that the discussion will be highly technical, with in-depth discussion of boring political and scientific issues.

I won't be able to log in at that time, but I would be interested in reading a summary once everything is said and done.
