Should I put queen on top of cage with heat?

That hybrid nest may be too big for them even when they have more workers. I think you should maybe block off a few chambers so they have a nest fit for their size. The thing is, I've never see many cons to having them in a too big nest, except they may place trash in the nest or stress for having a too big space so it your choice. Great looking colony!

Hey guys! Sorry for not posting in a long time. Most of the cocoons were lost due to bad mold outbreak. I had to put them in a test tube. They are doing good and I will post a full update on them tomorrow. Have a good rest of you guys day!


That hybrid nest may be too big for them even when they have more workers. I think you should maybe block off a few chambers so they have a nest fit for their size. The thing is, I've never see many cons to having them in a too big nest, except they may place trash in the nest or stress for having a too big space so it your choice. Great looking colony!

Thanks! You were right they couldn’t keep it clean.

This is true.... for like 3 days until you tell the colony they are the slowest growing Camponotus and they get so big you can't even see the queen in a flat nest. Also, I would NOT recommend brood boosting again. Lots of wild colonies have these large red mites, that could possibly be parasitic. Also you have to appreciate this species callow majors. They look absolutely adorable.

Well honestly the workers started to unexpectedly start dying and the queen was gone. I am not sure if she escaped or the last worker ate her. I will keep a close eye out for her if she did indeed escape somehow. However hopefully next year I will find another C. Flordanius queen.
