Can we have more information? Do you have queens of all these species but can only keep a few or something like that?

I say keep them all. You never know if they might die. Why not use a test tube setup, with a plastic container as an outworld.

I assume your new to the ant game? If so and your really can only afford/have the containers/Formicariums for two Colonies I'd recomend

Lasius niger and probably something like Temnothorax unifasciatus just because some of the other species I've heard don't have high-success rates such as the Formica rufa and for me at least Camponotus [plus they grow very slow however if you want majors they are great for that still that wait!]

I like Lasius niger [even though I don't have them here] because from what I've read/seen on the web they are really great for beginners and their colonies grow very large!

You can just buy a lot of tubes and get queens to fill them up. You can control the number of workers you have. Just don't feed them too often so their won't be explosive growth. It's a good way to enjoy a lot of species without going through the process of a full blown colony. But of course, a small colony doesn't have all the behaviors of a large one.

Species I keep:

1 Lasius cf. Neoniger 30 workers

1 Camponotus sp. 15 workers

20 Tetramorium SpE 30 workers

1 T. Sessile 200 workers

Do any of the species really appeal to you? If you just have first year queens, why not keep them all just to see which ones turn out to be your favorite and go from there?

Test tubes are pretty cheap, also it is possible to build your own formicariums for just a few dollars.

I put that question because i don't think all the queens will live in test tube

All the species can live in a test tube, alright. Formica rufa is not exactly easy to keep, but there are success stories.

@GeniousNutella12

which Carpenter ant do you have? There are a few species, which are a little bit different to keep.
