Hello ant lovers,

It;s the 2nd week of the month, which means a new video on the AntsCanada Youtube channel. For this episode, we wanted to see how long it would take Paratrechina longicornis ants to find a cockroach on a sink. Check out the time lapse video and don't forget to leave a comment! Thanks, guys!

Videos of small Camponotus colonies always look like pictures.

I've had lots of colonies with mites, but very few with parasitic mites. If it looks like the mites are attached to their joints, then they could be parasitic, because that's where they get to the soft tissue. A lot of the time they're just phoretic though. One of the colonies I had with parasitic mites was completely dead within a couple days from the time I noticed them, and every dead ant was completely covered in them. Thankfully, all the mites were then dead less than a day later.

That makes me totally sad.

Well the colony was just given to me, and it was an invasive species anyway, so don't be too sad. :P

Uh oh. Tapinoma sessile are not Argentine Ants; they're Odorous House Ants. Argentine Ants are Linepithema humile.

Ah this is true! I really meant to say Argentine Ants, but what I was saying also applies to Tapinoma sessile. Time to add an annotations. Thank you for pointing this out!

There are so many ant forums I can understand how someone running an ant business is unable to respond to all inquiries. What is with this public shaming phenomenon that is taking hold of our culture at this time? Totally uncool. I thought I was getting away from that culture by joining this forum instead of the Yuku one with it's grammar Nazi moderator and his/her public undermining of people all the time, but it seems all forums are the same lol.

I only joined this forum because it seems the most level headed, and because it allows us to talk about other commercial ant businesses such as AntsCanada in a sub section, something other forums don't allow.

You mean antdude?

Yes. He is an on running gag here (and maybe else where) but no one really wants to talk about him, and there isn't much need to either. Nuff said.
