NOTE: I actually found this queen about 3 weeks ago, I just forgot to post and ID request.

Location of collection: Pool in my backyard

Date of collection: Around the 10th of September, forgot the actual date, sorry!

Habitat: Loads of gum trees, near a river

Length: 2.50mm

Coloration: Brownish with very orangey-yellow gaster

Distinguishing characteristics: The abdomen is slightly clear, and as I said, very orangey-yellow

The rest of the questions I do not know.

Ok, I got about 1 better image. I don't have a macro lens unfortunately, my uncle has one thought and I'm super determined to figure out what this is, so I could probably borrow it off him if I really need to.

I think this is probably a member of one of those more obscure Genera they have a lot of in AU.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

I am going to make a guess and say its a Tetramorium species of some kind. Unlike the Tetramorium you may have heard about (immigrans, caespitum etc) she is semi claustral.

EDIT: i think it might be Tetramorium fuscipes, a species with records in your area: https://www.instagra...edium=copy_link

Oh, thanks, it does look quite like it, the coloration is mainly the same on the head and thorax though, and the texture is a bit different, I think you might be right about the Tetramorium part though.

NOO! I think they're Tetramorium capitale, and apparently that's quite a rare species! I found 3 queens but was short on test tubes so I only caught one! Oh well, at least I know for next time.

Yeah, it's pretty annoying, if I'd known when I caught them!
I mean I found 3 when I found the first one, before I knew the species.

Also, since she's so tiny, (3mm) should I move her into a smaller test tube?
