Anyone have experience with these little nasty creatures?  My son wants some for his ants and frogs, but I’m worried that if they get out we will have a roach infestation.  I can’t deal with that, but before I said no to him I wanted to ask you guys for info.  Anything will help and thank you all again!

You could order some roaches online at dubiaroaches.com. When they arrive you can stick the container in the freezer (which will humanely kill them). Whenever the ants need food you can thaw one out and give it to them. This way you won’t have to worry about them escaping. A lot of this info I got from ANTdrew by the way.

My favorite queens/colony’s:
Pheidole Tysoni, Selonopis Molesta, Brachymyrmex Depilis, Tetramorium Immagrians, Prenolepis Imparis, Pheidole Bicirinata

There are only a handful of Cockroach species out of the thousands in the world which are known to infest houses. Dubia roaches are NOT one of them. They are pet feeders, that is all. They are native to South America, and do not infest people's houses, and prefer to stay on the forest floor and scavenge for dead fauna and such. The vast majority of cockroaches, including dubias, are harmless to homes. It's the very few pest species which give the other innocent thousands a bad rap.

Well said, AD. I’ll also add that they are incapable of climbing smooth surfaces, so containment is very easy. You do not need to keep them alive for ants, but I guess you would for frogs.
"The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer." Prov. 30:25
Keep ordinary ants in extraordinary ways.

I also just made the jump to get some dubia last week. they're not bad. they're a lot slower than the house pest roaches and don't seem to be able to climb very well. I actually gave them a nice nest and I do feed mine. I'm not looking to raise them but I didn't want them to die a slow starving death either.
