Is plywood safe for ants?

Currently raising : C. Parius (2x), C. Vitiosus (2x), Carebara Diversa (1x), C. irratians (2x), M. brunnea (1x)

Have raised : Solenopsis

It depends if you want them to escape or not.

Hmmm well I don't understand that. Also, m99 please don't answer without any research. I researched and I didn't get an answer. So I asked my friend. He said is okay but I wanted to confirm. That's why I posted it here.

also, this sheet of plywood has been outdoors for more than a year. It hasn't got any rain but it has been outside

I wouldn't recommend plywood either even if the board was outside, residual chemicals that were used to treat the wood may kill any ants you house in such a formicarium. And due to its nature, plywood has weaker layers which ants can easily chew through. Almost any other untreated wood would be better for a formicarium; simply using new firewood or two by fours from Home Depot would be better for your ants.

uh oh I think I was the buddy-

 

I said I think it would be safe but I didn't do much research. I didn't have much time and literally just googled it, and apparently it's non-toxic, which looking back on it doesn't necessarily mean it's safe for ants.

Oh wow I just googled it again and that was results for "polywood" not plywood  :facepalm:

Sorry for the false information, I need to be more careful.

 

If you could get some that was safe for the ants it might be ok if were intending them to dig in it.
