I have just purchased a 3 queen TRUE polygynous Myrmecocystus mendax setup from Vern at Antopia USA. I highly suggest grabbing them while you can as they are limited. I’m excited to have them and will let you know when they arrive. Until then here are some photos from Vern.

Update 7/28/2022

I received the queens the following Thursday and they came without any issue and with a huge cluster of eggs. I let them be until today I checked up on them and they have a bunch of smaller larvae. I am hoping for workers by mid August.

Update 8/5/2022

The queens are all still chugging along and now are near the stage where they should be getting pupae. My prediction seems to be becoming true. I can’t wait to show you guys the queens with their incredible colorations. Honestly, they are the prettiest ants I’ve ever kept and if I’d have to rank my favorite honey pots it would have to go mexicanus, then placodops, and then mendax. These just take the cake and the cherry on top. These are also large ants. The queens might outmatch mexicanus. If so they would be the second largest pot in the United States, just behind the lovely and gigantic placodops 01 variant.

Really pretty queens! Are they going to like battle it out when the workers arrive. And if I'm correct didn't BBC Earth make a video on a 5 queen M. Mendax colony and the workers started attacking each queen until there's was one??
Keeper of:
Camponotus castaneus | 20-25 workers
Tetramorium Immigrans | 1,000+ workers (yes I gave them a brood boost don’t be salty!)
Aphaenogaster Rudis | 16 workers
Pheidole bicarinata | 50-60 workers

Ants are just better.

They are true polygonous. That means they will stay this way for the rest of the colony’s life.

Update 9/4/2022

Sadly one of the queens unexpectedly passed away right before any workers emerged but now they are happily living in a small custom formicarium created by the amazing UtahAnts. Currently they sit with 2 queens, 4-6 workers, and approximately 15-20 pieces of brood (not including any eggs).

Glad two of the three are doing well! Did you move them over to the formicarium once the first workers arrived?
