Last night I was out after dark checking for Camponotus stragglers and the only thing I saw was this queen on the pavement dying. I'm not familiar with it. Any ideas? It's probably 8mm.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.
However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:
Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Thanks. I figured the hairs would give it away.

So lucky!!! I've been looking all over the place every evening for them and nothing. nada.
Well not THAT lucky, she's dead. She was almost dead when I found her. I didn't see any more of them. But now that I know they're around I'll keep looking. I didn't know anything other than Camponotus was out.

She was on her back in my driveway about 11:30pm.
