Dorymyrmex insanus, or what's currently considered so. flavus is only recorded from one place in California TMK, and this is nowhere near that.

Hey I found these queens while black-lighting, I'm pretty sure that they are Dorymymrex, but not sure after that. The first queen is about half an inch, and the second one is about 3/4 of an inch. I think that they might be the same sp. but just different size. The first three pics are the half inch queen. The next three pics are the 3/4 inch queen. Ill put more pics if needed

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Dorymyrmex insanus is a much darker color, or do they vary in coloration?

I am relatively new to ID’ing ants, but what about Dorymyrmex bicolor?

Also, I am not sure, but there is a species called Dorymyrmex us CA-01, but I can’t find queen pictures, but the workers are pretty dark.
Proof it exist:

Maybe late flights, like a second round of flights? The local Brachymyrmex do this, and “refill” on alates every month for a mass mating flight where I only catch ones I see mating.

I almost said that, until I read location. Dorymyrmex bureni is not in Cali(antwiki). That’s why I suggested bicolor
