Size: 5 ~ 6mm

Found on a sidewalk.

Dark brown in color, light brown legs.

I am assuming either Aphaenogaster or Mymrica.

I definitely think it is some sort of Myrmica.

That looks like an Aphaenogaster, Myrmica don't have gasters that bulge up on the top and I think their spines are placed more back.

Yah, you could be right but that is a bit small 4-6mm.

Yeah that is pretty small and nearly the size of a Myrmica queen.

This is a video of my Myrmica colony.

They look awfully similar. It's hard to tell really.

Myrmica, not sure the exact species though.  They are just starting to fly.

Semi-claustral, so she will need food.  I tend to boost new queens with a few pupae as the founding process can frustrating with certain individuals.

Aphaenogaster queens are larger, and usually black or a very dark coloration.

They have unfertilized eggs. Not going to help, I think.

Anyhow, I don't think the queen is going to make it. Upon a closer inspection, she is missing half of an antenna and she is acting ill. She has two huge dents on her gaster. I think she was attacked and was hurt before I caught her.

I've noticed that in the vids. Maybe that's why her gaster appeared bulgy.

Sorry you lost a queen. :(
