I took this photo in the evening, and collected queens, almost certainly this species, later that night.

1. Location of collection: sidewalks

2. Date of collection: June 7, 2022
3. Habitat of collection: pinon-juniper
4. Length : ? they are relatively large ants
5. Coloration: queens are solid black, workers are black and orange and vary in size
6. Distinguishing characteristics: ?
7. Anything else distinctive: ?
8. Nest description: underground with exit holes near sidewalks

9. Nuptial flight time and date: preparing for flight on the evening of June 7, with lots of activity at the nest entrances. Queens collected just after dark.

If it would help I can take a photo of one of the queens, but I'd rather not disturb them.

My vicinus look a lot lighter, but this is probably a darker color morph.
