1. Location (on a map) of collection: Stagecoach Trails RV Resort, Shelter Valley, CA
2. Date of collection: 5/21/2022 around 8am
3. Habitat of collection: Under a tree next to a swarming nest that was under the parking lot pavement
4. Length (from head to gaster): 10 mm
 

Included a picture of the nest in case that helps

 

I think she is some sort of large fire ant, very aggressive.

Pogonomyrmex queen, they’re harvester ants. Not fire ants, but have a more painful sting. They also need higher temperatures to start colonies.

These guys are also semi claustral, so she will need feeding during the founding stage.

Make sure to keep her at at least 85 fahrenheit I believe.
