Hi gang, this Lasius sp. queen and several like her were found in my backyard pool sunday, July 12 at 5pm. The temperature was 35+ degrees Celcius and humidity was around 70-80%. She is approximatley 6mm in length and is a brownish red color.

She has already started her brood.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Don

They might be Lasius alienus. They look a lot like the ones I have plus the conditions (Warm and humid) we're similar to that day they had flights.

Wait until she has her first workers and we will find out what species it is for sure!

Lasius are often hard to identify from queen. Waiting for workers to eclose would be your best bet for a most accurate ID.

My guess would be Lasius alienus or possibly Lasius neoniger.

I agree with everyone saying Lasius alienus but I would imagine it's too early for Lasius neoniger.
