I really need springtails right now, so I want to ask how I can get some from my backyard or something in like a hour, maybe a day. (can't go to the petstore at the moment and buying them online will take too long)Thanks

Find rocks with ant colonies underneath them. Watch for a while, and you’ll probably see little whitish springtails darting about. You can also dig under rotting leaves. They’re basically everywhere.

Just put a good lid. They don’t really try to escape anyway.

They really don't. Most of my habitats have them, and they could get out if they wanted. However as long as their environment is humid and there is something to eat, they will go nowhere.

I keep mine in a Tupperware full of charcoal bits and just add a bit of uncooked rice every few weeks, as well as more water. They multiple really fast, and don't try to escape.

One thing to keep in mind though, springtails need moist, cool conditions. If your formicarium is too dry or is heated for your ants, they may not survive well. Springtails work great for my tarantulas but not for my southern/desert ants.

Keeping P. Barbatus, C. Penn., C. Discolor, and Atta Texana.

Thanks! I need springtails to feed my Ponera Pennsylvanica queen who hasn't eaten scince I caught her. I hope she's not dead yet

Edit: she's not dead, I found a lone springtail in a puddle and gave it to the queen. It looked like she was dancing with the dead springtail.
