I got this queen last year since then she has amassed a pile of brood and gotten to about 100 workers. Its crazy how fast they grow! I've read ANTdrew's Crematogaster journal so I feel like I have a pretty good idea of what I need to do. Right now they're in a test tube connected to a AC test tube portal, it's been working okay for them but they're going to need an actual outworld soon. I can't wait until they fly again in my area, I'm hopping to catch some more! I've been feeding them Dubia Roaches, Mealworms, ant nectar, and honey water. Any other suggestions of what I should feed them?

Sorry for not updating in a bit! Here's some pictures of the colony. I also gave them an outworld though that's not shown.

Also, for some reason, whenever I feed them they will drag the food back to their nest and grind up the exoskeleton of the roach/mealworm I fed them. Does anyone know why they do this?

I moved them today! Into their new nest they go! It only took a couple hours for them to move and the heat definitely helped. Of course like usual with ants they didn't do exactly what I wanted and had to move into their outworld for about an hour.

Well I guess I'm reviving this. I don't know why I stopped posting about this colony, I guess I just got busy with life you know? Anyway's they are still doing great they have grown SO much in the last year. I'm feeding them roaches and some ant juice that I sell on my website here: https://www.missouriantshop.com/. They empty liquid feeders ridiculously fast now.

This colony has easily became one of my favorite's over the 2 years I've had it. To anyone able to that hasn't, I recommend keeping Crematogaster, They're great!

I've always wanted Crematogaster, but have never been lucky enough to find a queen. When is the best time to find these?

I found the queen in this journal in September but I believe they fly from August to October.

I think most California species are found with black lights.
