One of my Formica subsericea queens died. I took the opportunity to do a timelapse.

I discovered my formica queen cut in half! It was so shocking. I don't know what killed her or why her workers were taking her apart ... (they were very well fed and had full gasters, I don't think they killed her, just took her apart after... creepy)

It was strange since the colony had a new batch of eggs and tons of brood. I gave most of the brood to my other Formica queen who has none.

I kept two of the pupae and a callow worker to do a timelapse. This is after the first day of filming. I'll post the final version here when it's done.

May I ask what you are using for a lens/camera?

For some weird reason, formica workers tend to tear apart their queen after she dies of natural causes.
