Roughly a year ago I set up a paludarium stocked with south American flora and fauna, including a group of Epipedobates tricolor dart frogs and several ant colonies. The ant species stocked were: Brachymyrmex patagonicus, Cyphomyrmex rimosus, and Pheidole navigans. All species could utilize the nectaries of a passion vine for nectar, and could scavange dead fruit flies, additionally the Cyphomyrmex were offered oak flowers for their fungus. A year later and I rarely see any ants but recently accidentally found the Pheidole nest when removing a dead bromeliad. I do not think the Cyphomyrmex made it but I am going to try again. It's really hard to get a young colony established in this tank as the frogs are pretty ruthless. The Pheidole travel along the passion vines and stay the most out of sight and are seemingly the most successful, with a large colony containing alates. Below is a pic of the setup as well as a video of when I found the Pheidole's nest.
