I found nine of these tiny Hypoponera sp. queens on my black light 7-12-2015 in Trabuco Canyon, CA.

I put them in four test tubes--three groups of two, and one group of three. So far half of them have removed their wings and a couple of them have died. None of them have laid any eggs yet.
 
I have tried keeping these before, and none of them have ever laid eggs. I hope one of these times I will get lucky.

Very hard to raise. They need substrate so I think you should put them in something like those antfarm boxes.

Hmm, I was wondering if I should try that. I just know I'll never be able to see them. I have a few vacant ones now, so I think I'll give it a try. I might design some for very small ants now that I'm 3D printing the insides.

In my experience, they are unable to walk well on glass, even a horizontal surface.  This seems to stress them out and might be part of the reason they won't survive without substrate.

Most likely similar to Ponera. They too cannot walk on glass. They thrived most in a Plaster or dirt nest. The only reason mine died was lack of humidity.

I moved two pairs into two extra ant farm boxes I had available. As for the other two test tubes, I just put some dirt in them.
 
I fed them some byFormica Formula 100, and they all seemed to really like it.

Have they laid eggs yet? I would want to copy your method if it works. Semi-claustral queens have been difficult for me to raise.

My Brachyponera queen also died recently after not laying anything for few weeks as well...
