So I was feeding the carpenters a cricket. I cut off the head with scissors and gave it to them like normal. But, one of the cricket's legs was still kicking.
All the minor workers are going nuts. "defcon 5! the nest is in danger!"

In the tube to the nest I see a super major with one minor behind her and another pulling her by the mandible ... trying to get her out of the nest.
They get her out... but she RUNS right back in. They chase her & get her out again and maneuver her to the dead kicking cricket.

They basically point her at the problem & her tiny mind has a thought! she bites the cricket with her much larger and more effective jaws.
Great success!
I'm still laughing.
But that was probably the first time that major ever left the nest. That's why she was so scared.

in my experience, camponotus are just wimps in general. Even the “tough” majors will p*ssy out at the first sign of danger.

A Major in a old colony got flung out of the outworld by a kicking (split in half) cricket. The major landed on me and that suprised me to the point of tripping backwards. Hey what else are you going to do if a major was catapulted at you

Been keeping ants since January of 2021

Always try new things, even if its hard, hard is not impossible. We are smart and it's good to be smart but not too smart for your own good.
