This Cardiocondyla queen is less than 3mm. She is so small and light that she was actually walking on the water in the pool when I found her.
Pretty big for Cardiocondyla! The ones in Hawaii would be a bit smaller than 1mm!

Anywhere you want! Nuptial flights can occur anywhere! I tend to find the rarest species in the middle of nowhere.

That's how they are. I guess it's the Lasius parasites and the Camponotus pennsylvanicus colonies.
It is possible that the queen you found flew this fall and was just out and about.
