I really hope I can find Camponotus castaneus myself this year...hope I haven't missed their nuptial flight here in TN.

Have kept many other ant species but now keep over 100 tarantulas and other inverts! Mantids, centipedes, and scorpions to name a few 😁

Lots of ants were flying tonight and were attracted by the blacklight.

Location: Western & Northern Massachusetts (2 separate sitings in each location confirmed)
Date: 17th Of May, 2017
Time: Started early evening (around 6 - 7 pm) and continued until around 10:00 pm.
Temperature: 88F degrees and went until 74.7F. Peak temperature for the day was 91F.
Humidity: Humidity was 30% at heavy sunlight hours and increased to 58% towards the evening and night.
Wind: 14 MPH during sunlight hours with majority of flights happening as the winds stopped.
Rain: Two days before, 1.36" approx.

Solenopsis Xyloni Flights all over socal near santa ana yesterday. didn't see any alates last night. Maybe they'll be crawling around today.

Just asking, how do neivamyrmex, labidus, etc. AKA "Army Ants" have nuptial flights? Aren't queen wingless or something? Is it the males that fly or...?

Yes, the males fly and they are sometimes called "sausage flies"...the queens, as far as I know, do not ever fly or even try to.
