Canada Sask.

Myrmica has kind of flown [they don't have typical ant mating flights, I usually just find a queen here and there wondering around]

It has been very rainy here this year, and most flights I think I've either missed or have been held back awhile :|

Myrmica also have sort of flown here as well, I went walking around an manged to find 2 queens (one was dead)

They were just sitting around at their nest entrances with alates for about 2 hours. It seems that some queens might have mated in their nests but as far as a full blown flight it hasn't happened yet.

Species: Lasius neoniger

Weather: 22c [really humid and gross feeling] nice little background wind

Interesting Behavior: After and before the big flights colonies were basically "dead" inactive underground, which makes me wonder if that is normal or if these are some other Species of Lasius.

August 13/2016

Species: Formica species, probably from the formica variety

Weather: 22c Humid, and nice little breeze, I actually found these the same time as the Lasius flew so that's cool! I only found a few though and nests still have alates in them so I assume the main flights haven't happened.

Side Note: Formica will and do bite, they actually hurt pretty good when they get you inbetween the fingers :o

I also again found a few Myrmica sp. queens, but what else is new, once they start to fly they seem to have very small mini-flights and tons of colonies around have alates just waiting to come out!

Saw a few Aphaenogaster males and a few queens.  The nests I found were loaded with alates.

These Lasius were all over the ground and as soon as the sun peered over the mountains and hit them they started moving.  Hundreds of them.

Solenopsis invicta had their flights today, here in Irvine. I missed them though, but I'll be able to go out tomorrow and try again. I saw a bunch of dead alates around their mound. Looked like they had been sprayed, but the mound itself wasn't sprayed and didn't see any dead workers.
