Species: Formica ulkei
Location: Athabasca, Alberta (Canada)
Date: July 9 2015
Time: 2:30pm
Temperature: 31C (88F)
Humidity: 45%
Wind: 10km/hr (very light)
Rain: Rained too days ago, might get more today, feels very muggy.
Saw one queen around 10am and 2 more between 2:00-3:30. Also saw my first male ulkei, then I saw 7 more males. I will post pictures of the male later.
Edit: yes I meant July, not June.

Did you mean to put June or July?
Today I caught 18 Solenopsis aurea/amblychila queens, two Solenopsis xyloni queens, one Solenopsis molesta queen, and a Pogonomyrmex californicus queen foraging.

Largest number of Formica aserva queens running around that I have ever seen. Usually I only see 2-3, but I saw over a dozen. Looked hard, but I did not see any Formica aserva nest despite the fact that the area had been cleared last year and was mostly bare ground with clumps of weeds.

Time: 5:00 pm
Temperature: 23C (73F)
Humidity:
Wind: none
Rain: light showers on and off all week. No rain that day.
Small flight, but I was surprised to see them this early. Checked a wild nest and very few alate pupae left, most have eclosed. Might be an early winter.

Time: 1:00pm
Temperature: 18C (64F)

I have seen the odd queen here and there, and a few males. Doesn't look like the big flight quite yet. There were tonnes of alate pupae in nests earlier, but after a 3 day rain several weeks ago I am only seeing a few alates or alate pupae in the nests.
