I would never use a spray or air freshener stick because of the worry my ants could be affected or at worse, die.

I wonder if anyone knew of a natural air freshener that would be safe for ants.

Are the ants smelling bad? They should not smell...

some ants like pine resin, and it has a nice smell so I guess you could offer some pine chips in a small quantity (I imagine even too much pine might be bad) my Pogonomyrmex loved the little pine chips I gave them and put them in their nest.

But I didn't do it due to any smell.

The only part of ant keeping that might stink is if you raise crickets and don't keep their box cleaned every two day. (crickets are so much damn work)

Starting this July I'm posting videos of my ants every week on youTube.

I like to make relaxing videos that capture the joy of watching ants.

If that sounds like your kind of thing... follow me >here<

Ants dominate planet earth for a reason. They are tough survivors. Don’t worry so much about what is safe or not. Just use common sense.
"The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer." Prov. 30:25
Keep ordinary ants in extraordinary ways.

Thanks again. I am just so worried about harming my colonies. I just got out of hospital after a 16 month admission and spent the whole time eager to be discharged to start my new colonies!

New antkeepers: ok...*sprays a ton of chemicals onto the outworld to make it smell better*, ahhh, they should be fine, oops I didn't read the common sense part.

Yea I know no one would do that (I hope?)

Been keeping ants since January of 2021

Always try new things, even if its hard, hard is not impossible. We are smart and it's good to be smart but not too smart for your own good.

Glad to hear you’re back on your feet and ready to start. Feel free to ask for any help you need. Reading old journals is probably the best way to learn, especially if you find ones on the species you find.

Not many "air freshners" will harm your colonies unless they're super close. Just keep chemicals and such away from them. And if the smell of a chemical is strong, open a window. But most candles even burning right next to their formicarium wouldn't hurt them in the slightest.
