Just sharing with you some European subterranean termites (Reticulitermes lucifugus) in a classic and super easy petri dish setup with some soil, untreated toilet paper and a 3mm thick sprucewood slice. Such setup works in containers of any size to accomodate colonies of varying magnitude, though of course keeping small ones like this in petris is ideal if you're aiming for maximum visibility plus minimum work. Personally i recommend to always maintain a master colony in a large natural-like setup (a very stable environement) in order to always have an abundant source of termites to split new colonies from to observe and/or display and experiment with. This colony here was isolated a bit more than two months ago if memory serves me well, and is now headed by several secondary royals of both sexes.

Ah, there's not much to do with them! For sure in the future i'll post a very basic "guide" on how i make my petri and box setups, though there's not much to tell since they're extremely simple (though, at least in my experience, highly effective).
