Lasius + Myrmica cohabitation observed in the wild

This article details observation of lasius flavus and myrmica rubra cohabitating in the wild. Theoretically, this works because lasius flavus is unaggressive and they have differing diets. I think it might also work in with North American myrmica who tend to be less aggressive and have smaller colonies than rubra given a large enough terrarium.

Its honestly surprising to me that myrmica rubra of all species would coexist with another ant species in peace. Here in canada they are extremely invasive and aggressive and drive out most other ant species.
