Are you allowed to take your ants with you if you move to another state? I eventually plan on moving to New Mexico, where Rugosus is native, and they are the closest thing to p. badius in that area I believe, as far as having bi/polymorphic (i think rugosis are bimorphic?) workers and I think they might be close in size.

Anyway, I can't get a badius colony cause I don't wanna get a colony I can't move there. However, I'm not moving for quite some time so even if I can't bring them, its gonna be YEARS so I may be able to sell or rehome them to a local anter.

Edit: Random statement, your comment about the badius is so right on.. When I first got into ants, I assumed "pheidole", or BHA, was a term for them cause they had the biggest heads I've seen on workers (I havent seen many large species in person yet sadly.. Those and some different carpenter variants and a few others like cow killers, etc)

Update? Are these guys out of hibernation?

Unfortunately, I had most of my colonies die out on me during my winter break vacation. The only colonies that I have left are my Pogonomyrmex rugosus and Acromyrmex versicolor. I'll be giving them some new formicariums soon though, so I may be uploading some pictures of them soon. I also have a Lasius crypticus queen with a worker, so that'll be included too.

It's been awhile, but this journal is far from discontinued. I may have lost much of my collection from last year, but I'll definitely be getting more this season. After this crazy finals month of May, I will hopefully start posting entries again.

Did the Lios survive hibernation?

They ended up with loads of mites and eventually died off. I was hoping to start another colony this year, but decided not to due to their overwhelming colony size.

This year, however, I've been far more successful in finding and keeping colonies. I'll try to get this journal back up and running to display the variety that I currently keep.

I'll probably discontinue this and split into different journals depending on the category of ants I keep. I plan to start two more soon, but that sort of has to do with how much time I have to make and update them.
