oh, I thought florida was alot warmer than here...

Also what species is this?

All I can say is tribe Lasiini.

I guess that narrows it down a bit.

Thanks!

Always try new things, even if its hard, hard is not impossible. We are smart and it's good to be smart but not too smart for your own good.

Its Prenolepis imparis for sure. If you seal everything with cotton you won't have to worry about anything getting in.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

They will tolerate each other during founding, then they will start killing each other when workers arrive.

Prenolepis imparis are highly polygynous although colonies remain small.

If you want to keep them I would keep them together but if you want to sell them I'd keep them apart so you can make more money.

Prenolepis imparis, 100%
If you’re trying to start a business, keep them separate. That way you can sell each one.

It is, but species here fly when temps are 75+ and if you going to get a lot 80ish. I black light whenever conditions are right, but another factor that plays in is wind speed, and in fl it is decently high for flying ants…

True. When I buy a colony of polgynos ants, I do believe that in MATURE colonies colonies with multiple vs. One queen still have the same amount of workers(Considering S. invicta correct me if I am wrong)

If you want them to grow at any rate for a personal colony, put them together, but ANTdrew is correct that it makes more sense to sell them separately, unless you could market the faster growth of more queens for more.

well I'm planning to sell these two so I'll keep them apart. They're going in the garage when I get home.

Also, assuming you disturb them once a week, it can be dangerous to put them together, as if one dies and grows mold…. RIP the other one
