Rhytidoponera Chalybaea is an relatively recent invasive species in New Zealand (1950s) which is really impressive considering it sticks to urban areas (Auckland) which also contains argentines, tetramorium, and Pheidole megacephala similar to north Californian urban areas where no other ant can survive. Unlike other imports from Australia like iridomyrmex and myrmecia, rhytidos have actually gotten quite common in New Zealand and have thrived with their more notorious competition. I can't help but think that if they got sent to a place like California, Italy or Japan which has a similar climate to Auckland, they'd be very successful as well.
