Hello y'all..

My name is Gin

I'm an architect / designer for a Marble company

For as long as i can remember, i always wanted my own formicarium with a very specific ant in mind

This last few weeks, i've been watching AntsCanada channel on YouTube...

And then... out of nowhere, I just said to myself "Ok, let's do this!"

But since my knowledge about ants are about as much as politician's sincerity,

I don't even know where to begin.

So, here i am...

Let's just say, i already prepared my formicarium,

And all that's left is just to put the queen there

 

All the introduction aside,

I've been meaning to ask about an ant i just captured this morning

Because this is actually the ant i want for my setup, ever since i was a kid.

I assume, big ants would make watching my formicarium more enjoyable

 

 

Could anyone tell me what ant is this?

Well.. Obviously it's black

The worker size are about 10+ mm

Single pointy node between her thorax and abdomen

After quick google search, my first guess was a Carpenter Ant

But this ant live nowhere near any wood

They build their colony underground, on my backyard

I need to identify this ant so i could purchase my first queen.

 

Obviously, English is not my primary language

So, please be gentle if there's any misspelled words or grammar error

Welcome! It would be easier to identify if you provide location and date found.

As for identifying your ant, we will need some more information like location. There is a template for identification request posts that help a lot.

What country are you even in? The ant you posted looks like odontoponera, which is native to southeast asia.

Welcome!  Don't worry, your English is better than many Native English speakers I know (probably an I'm-a-teenager-and-therefore-basic-grammatical-structure-and-rules-does-not-apply-to-me type thing).  My guess is against Camponotus, but then again I don't know too much with identification.  Also, yes, location would help loads.  My guess is East Asia area, as Gin sounds like a very Asian name (not stereotypically, it's just languages around there tend to use the same phonetics), then again I could be wrong.  I'm going to piggy-back off of Manito here and say maybe, possibly, Odontoponera?
