1. Location of collection:  Park in urban city
2. Date of collection: 9 june 2015

5. Color, hue, pattern and texture:  black and a little brown
6. Distinguishing characteristics: the worker has one petiole.

7. Anything else distinctive: the queen block the holes in  test his tube with cotton and it dosent seem to mind the light that much.

To me this looks like Camponotus chromaiodes. Could I be verified? Or it could be Camponotus herculeanus.

I traveled through Merida and stayed at the Hotel San Francisco. We went to the ancient city of Ushmal (I believe its pronounced) one morning and traveled around the country side.

Not in Mexico. This is a Camponotus species though. Here are the Camponotus found in Mexico.

I am not good at IDing ants down south, so I will leave the ID to others.

Basic care for any Camponotus:

Feed every 2-4 days.  Usually cut up pieces of cricket, mealworm, or other insects.

Also offer sugar water or hummingbird nectar.

You can feed them on a tin foil "plate", or put there test tube in a foraging area for easier feeding.
