Hey all! 
The Myrmecia Nigrocincta queen and her worker I was given by JCRHJM arrived on thursday.

They are doing great and both are alive and well. The pile of brood looks great and they have already taken some protein. 

This is the setup for them right now. I found out I cracked a bone in my foot the day before I got them and was not able to get some nice rocks to add. Will add some more for them when I get a cast on.

Update: Mealworm went hard too fast so I gave a baby cricket and they loved it. Put it right onto of their brood to feed on it.

Best picture I could get. I got a used Canon Power Shot SX 40HS and once the SD card comes in the mail I'll start taking pictures on that.

They are still doing very well. Still taking baby crickets.

I was doing a routine feed for all the ants and when I got to these bull ants I found only one brood left in the test tube. For a min I was like.. omg I only fed them a few days ago. did I not feed enough food and one larvae ate the two?
I then searched the outworld and found out what happed. One larvae had died and another turned into a pupa but did not spin a cocoon. Both were placed in the outworld because of this.
Thinking back on what I might have done wrong, nothing came to mind other than some gum nuts I added in for decoration. But there is nothing wrong with them. I then remembered the journal JCRHJM made.

They did the same back then in a way.

 

So now the Myrmecia Nigrocincta colony is down to just the queen, one worker and one larvae. Very sad with this update.

That is unfortunate, hopefully you are able to get another worker from the remaining larva. The queen's done 1 successfully so eventually there should be more on the way.

Well.. sad news. The last larvae turned into a pupa but did not spin a cocoon as well. So they dumped it into the outworld. This time I was able to see them doing it.
However she has laid 2 eggs to start the next clutch.

Yeah my nigrocincta are also going through a period of high mortality as well, down to 1 large larvae and a few eggs. Just gotta give them time.

Update: 
The eggs and 2 larvae vanished. I don't know why they ate them, i haven't checked them much at all and had been feeding them.
No new eggs yet. Both the queen and worker is doing well tho.

You could try changing some conditions maybe?

My nigrocincta brood are back on track now that I'm watering their setup more. 

Or this individual could just be a bad mom.

Hmm yea. I have the Myrmecia Chrysogaster in a test tube attached to a mini outworld and she is doing great. Might do that for them. maybe being in a tub and tube setup is not something they like.

Hmm yea. I have the Myrmecia Chrysogaster in a test tube attached to a mini outworld and she is doing great. Might do that for them. maybe being in a tub and tube setup is not something they like.

I moved them over to the new setup and they had two eggs. A few days later she laid two more eggs and things seem to be great.

I wish America had Myrmecia. The closest I can get to Myrmecia in Michigan is Stigmatomma pallipes and Sturmigenys

I would recommend adding a substrate in their tube to help the larvae spin cocoons. It seems most Ponerinae need substrate to cocoon.

Yea, all bull ants need it so I've given them some from the get go.

It doesn't look like there is very much in the tube.

That was the old set up. and yea there was alot in there but you can't tell because the tube was sitting on the substrate too. so it all blended together in the picture.
