This seems really odd to me. I live in West coast of Ireland. On my kitchen countertop tonight I found a Cremogaster Scutteralis queen. I happen to have a nascent colony with about 20-25 workers so I'm pretty sure ID is ok.
We have a fruit bowl beside where I found her. I just bought fruit a couple hours before hand. Would have been in plastic. Is it possible a queen survived being on a harvested apple? They came from France so would be in their territory. I just can't believe she could have survived in a pack of loose fruit. Also got Oranges from Spain.
She had maybe one injured leg as she had a slight limp. She moved quite fast though and seemed otherwise ok.
I made her a test tube setup with a little cotton soaked sugar water so will see if I might get some miracle Christmas colony!

Ps. We also just had a pretty big storm in Ireland that **maybe** dumped her here but that would also seem way out there. For context it is about 5-10 Celsius here about now.
Also C. Scutteralis seem to fly Sep-Oct so all seems really odd to me.

I've heard of spiders and scorpions surviving stuff like that. If it didn't get too cold, wet or hot (or squashed) its for sure she could survive.
Amazing find though! And maybe also something Ireland biosecurity wouldn't like. hahahhaha

That’s amazing! With luck like that, you’d better get a lottery ticket too.

Around a year ago someone in vancouver found an exotic crematogaster queen on a fig, so this definitely isn’t unheard of.

Where do you buy the fruit? Is it all just fresh fruit from farmers markets? There's also some instances when people find small colonies right inside peach pits

This queen deserves a proper journal, if not a documentary.
